The Retreat comprises a decidedly contemporary villa inspired by the landscape. The sloping site leading down to the lake has been used to maximum advantage.

Opened in 2013, The Retreat is situated at the end of a quiet unpaved road just 10 minutes inland from Hikkaduwa town by tuk tuk (three-wheeler).


 
The glassy lagoon - literally on the doorstep – hosts abundant and  extraordinary wildlife with parakeets, kingfishers, cormorants, sea eagles and mynah birds that roost in the jungle bordering the lagoon.

Monitors, iguanas, chipmonks and leaf monkeys visit the garden by day; while fruit bats fill the skies at dusk.
