Free Independents' Day Promotion on Spalding Market Place

Independents' Day is to be held on Thursday, 4th July. Because of the amount of interest, these dates have been extended to include the 5th & 6th July.  It's been reported in the Lincs Free Press this week that retailers in Spalding are queuing up to be part of a national campaign to put the soul back in shopping in town centres.  More than 50 Spalding businesses have already signed up to be involved.

Theo Paphitis, star of the BBC TV's Dragons' Den is backing the national campaign.   He said: "I am supporting this year's Independents' Day Campaign as I believe that independent businesses have a vital role to play in our economy."

Phil Scarlett, president of the Spalding Chamber of Commerce said "Spalding has a very strong selection of independent stores.   It is critical during these challenging trading times that shoppers support their independent retailers.

The clothing is a statement for most young people, as they are a statement of hipness and imply that the person is part of a uniform or tribal group.

The team at Drive By Websites has found creating the Spalding Hospice Foundation website a humbling experience and I'm very conscious that I would like to promote the Hospice and the most excellent work done by volunteers without being self-congratulatory.

But, promote I will because, just like me, you might not know that the Spalding Hospice Foundation was formed in 2002 with the aim of providing 24 hour hospice beds for the people of the Spalding area suffering from life threatening illnesses.

The hospice wants to provide a calm and caring environment for people whose illnesses cannot be cured. The hospice beds also provide respite care for carers as well as support for the patient.

The Spalding Hospice Foundation was established after an Open Meeting in the Parish Church in 2002 to raise funds with the sole objective of supporting hospice beds and palliative care for adults and young people with life threatening illnesses in Spalding and the surrounding area. The aim was to provide a highly skilled, multi-disciplinary team to improve the quality of life for patients with a life threatening illness in a friendly and relaxed environment.


All monies raised, donations and bequests received are paid directly into a bank account and are used solely to support the hospice beds and palliative care services required by the Tulip Suite. No administration fees or any other charges are made by the Spalding Hospice Committee. The work of the Committee is voluntary to maximize the amount of monies available to be spent on the ongoing upkeep of the new Tulip Suite at the Spalding Johnson Community Hospital.
